Today was the annual "Snowday!" event at the University of Jyväskylä. Which basically means: students hanging out on the lake participating in winter sports. I met Charlie at his lake-front office and we ventured out onto the lake where loud music pumped through speakers and sunshine warmed the rosy cheeked students. Some students were busy drinking olut (beer) and ice fishing while others snowshoed, cross country skied or played snow football (soccer). In tandem with "Snowday!", another (more political) event took place on the snowy beach of Lake Jyväsjärvi , the "Snowmen Against Global Warming" event. The university community was encouraged to build a snowman on the icy lake: "Ranks of snowmen are taking a stand against global warming at Lake Jyväsjärvi." Too bad the snow was a little too crusty to make proper snowmen, but that did not stop the students...they made snowmen out of blocks of snow--very innovative! .gif)

What a great snowday. Looks like everyone had a great time. It's great that everyone participates and have a great time doing it. We all should be a little more community oriented.
Spread a little love is always good
Well, I would not say "everyone" participated. It was a small select group of students--maybe a group of 100 students out of 14,000 on campus. But, it was still worth the trip down to the lake. The highlight for me was watching them play soccer (football) in the snow--not an easy task.
